Internet Research Group
Initiates New Research Into
Branch Office WAN Communication
Los Altos, Calif., March 12, 2004
Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced that it is planning to release
a new report on branch office communications this April.
“The branch office is one of the most
interesting arenas for the evolution of IT and communications technology,”
noted Peter Christy, co-founder of IRG and co-author of the report. “Two of
the most important initiatives in enterprise IT are (1) cost and complexity
reduction and (2) the exploitation of network accessed applications to
improve important business processes. The branch office is where you see
these initiatives pulling in different directions. It’s a very fertile
ground for product and system innovation.”
This new study, titled The 2004
Branch Office WAN Communication Technology Report, will detail the
applications, product categories and technologies contributing the most to
delivering high-value applications to a distributed workforce, business
partners and customers, while at the same time helping drive overall IT
costs down.
This evolving category of products and
services—what IRG calls the Branch Office Subsystems Market—may
prove to be one of the most lucrative networking markets in the foreseeable
future, according to IRG principal, John Katsaros. “An increasing and
surprising large percentage of the enterprise workforce work in “remote”
locations and these users are critical participants with emerging high-value
applications.”
The study will be available in April,
2004. A prospectus for this study
