Internet Research Group Releases Newest Security Report:
“The Microsoft Security Strategy”
Los Altos,
Calif., May 26, 2005
The Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced that it has published its
latest report on Microsoft’s security strategy.
“Bill Gates gave
the opening keynote at February’s RSA 2005 conference and said that
Microsoft was going to spend roughly $2B a year in R&D directly related to
security,” noted Peter Christy, co-founder of IRG and author of the report.
“This is the largest single R&D investment in the information technology
security industry. Where will this money be spent and what is the impact on
vendors, enterprises and consumers?”
This new study
titled The Microsoft Security Strategy describes the overarching
security fabric that Microsoft is planning, the high-level motivations
behind this plan and the potential change this will have on the way
businesses, consumers and competitors view computer and network security.
“Gates and Ballmer are quite articulate about their customers’ security
needs and issues,” noted Christy. “In the past when Microsoft finally
understood an issue they ended up doing interesting things. We expect that
to be the case here.”
The study is available now. The
