Los Altos, CA
,
September 14, 2007
– Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced the release of a new
infrastructure report – Virtualization and Security. This is the third
report in IRG’s series of research reports on virtualization.
Virtualization has already proven to be quite disruptive in the data center
with security likely to be one of the next dominoes. This report takes an
advanced look at the long term business and industry-wide security issues
and the implications for data center managers and security vendors.
“On balance,
we think that virtualization will provide the means to make IT more secure
and offers many new opportunities for security vendors,” noted Peter
Christy, co-founder of IRG. “At the same time we think it will some time to
gain confidence in the security of virtualized data center and to adapt to
the challenges and opportunities that virtualization poses. This report
takes a close look at the virtualization security landscape as it is today
and how it will develop in the future.”
The study is available now. A table of
contents for this study can be downloaded by

The vendors impacted by this report range broadly from the existing security
vendors (e.g., McAfee and Symantec) to application providers and platform
vendors (e.g., VMware,, Microsoft, XenSource, IBM and HP) as well as other
