Internet Research Group Publishes Research Study
On Desktop Delivery and Virtual Desktops

Los Altos, CA – December 12, 2008 – Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced the release of its latest report on technology infrastructure, “Desktop Delivery & Virtual Desktops: An IRG Overview.”

On the heels of the success of server virtualization many organizations are giving serious consideration to desktop virtualization. Many vendors, large and small, are competing for their share of this emerging market category.

“Virtual Desktops is an important but confusing topic,” noted Peter Christy, co-founder of IRG. “Virtual Desktops is one of many Desktop Delivery solutions. These solutions are all motivated by a need to reduce the lifecycle cost of PC ownership dominated by administrative and support costs. But when you consider the economics and performance issues, it becomes clear that no existing solution is ideal and that different applications will favor different approaches.”

This report creates a simplified but meaningful framework for considering these market opportunities, understanding the technical solutions and anticipating the relative importance of the different approaches.

Vendors directly impacted by the Virtual Desktop market include Citrix, Desktone, HP, IBM, EMC, Microsoft, PanoLogic, Parallels, Quest Software, Sun Microsystems, Virtual Iron and VMware.
