Internet Research Group Publishes Research Study On
Microsoft SharePoint
Los Altos, CA – August 15,
2008 – Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced the release of its
latest report on the network infrastructure, “Microsoft
SharePoint (takes over the world)”
With the 2007 version
Microsoft SharePoint has clearly achieved critical mass and is a billion
dollar product line with more than 100M seat licenses sold. This new
research report reflects IRG’s ongoing research into collaboration markets
and IRG’s examination of SharePoint use and the growing SharePoint ISV, VAR
and integrator ecosystem.
“SharePoint is now changing
the world as only a successful Microsoft platform can because of Microsoft’s
dominance of software markets. Any software vendor or system integrator with
an adjacent offering needs to understand SharePoint and how SharePoint will
disruptively change all of these markets,” noted Peter Christy, co-founder
of IRG. “Our goal with this report is to help our clients accomplish that
more quickly and better.”
This report deconstructs
SharePoint’s success, projects the impact and addresses the opportunities
and issues of being part of a Microsoft-controlled ecosystem.
Vendors potentially impacted
by SharePoint include: IBM (FileNet), EMC (Documentum) and Interwoven as
well as all of the nascent Web 2.0 and collaboration ventures. SharePoint
ecosystem vendors include AvePoint, Bamboo Solutions, Colligo Networks,
CorasWorks, Neverfail Group, NextDocs, NextLab, NextPage, K2 and Quest
Software.
