Internet Research Group Publishes Research Study On
Cisco’s Unified Computing System
Los Altos, CA – March, 17, 2009 –
Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced the release of its latest
report on technology infrastructure, “Cisco UCS: Differentiation and
Value Proposition.” Yesterday, Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO)
introduced its vision for data-center computing including a Cisco developed
blade server system. This new research report analyzes Cisco’s UCS strategy,
opportunity and challenges over the short and long term.
“Cisco’s UCS is one of the most interesting
computer systems introduced since commodity systems started to dominate
vendor proprietary systems 20 years ago,” noted Peter Christy, co-founder of
IRG. “UCS is an innovative attack on the challenges that limit the broader
use of virtualization for demanding applications, based ultimately on a
unified and converged data-center network fabric.”
This new report – “Cisco UCS:
Differentiation and Value Proposition” – looks at the elements that
collectively form the UCS, the way in which these make virtualization
better, and the likely impact this can have on the broader visions of
Utility and Cloud Computing.
Vendors directly impacted by Cisco’s UCS
offering include: BMC, CA, Citrix, Dell, EMC, HP, IBM, Juniper, Microsoft,
NetApp, VMware.
